In the Spring of 2017, J. Kelr and I had the 1st session for what would become The Shoulder You Lean On, knocking out ‘Step Into You’ with such zeal that it made sense for us to keep following this path. A year and a half later, and our creation is finally ready for your ears! It’s been a process that’s involved countless calls and conversations, trips to Los Angeles to perfect the vision and brought my dear friends Kiara Lanier, Nnamdi Ogbonnaya and Kenny Keys into the fold along the way to share some of their magic. It’s also been a year of numerous challenges, both personally and professionally. Some days, I wasn’t entirely sure how I was going to hang in there. Making this made it possible, and I hope it can provide some shelter for anyone also going through it. This album after all is about the search for acceptance, understanding, and figuring out who actually has your back when the times get rough. The answer may surprise you.
